Why the Garden City Calls Us First

Born and raised in Missoula — a hometown crew that knows every grade from the Rattlesnake to Miller Creek.

Student Moves & Building COIs

Move-in week around the University of Montana is our busy season, and we know the Slant Streets rentals, the downtown lofts, and the apartment complexes off Higgins. Need a Certificate of Insurance on file for your building or property manager? We handle that paperwork across Missoula County and western Montana so your move and your deposit stay protected.

Top-Rated MT Crews

Everyone who shows up wears our shirt and draws a Garden City Movers paycheck — full-time, background-checked, and trained by Levi himself, never temp help pulled off a lot. That standard is how we hold a 5-star rating on Google and Yelp.

One Flat Written Rate

No mystery line items, no number that creeps up on move day. You get a clear flat-rate quote in writing for your local Missoula move, and a binding written figure on anything leaving Montana.

No Brokers, No Subcontractors

The truck parked out front is ours and the crew is on our payroll. Your move never gets posted to a load board or handed to a stranger in a rented van — one Garden City company carries it start to finish.

Fully Insured, $1M Cargo

Permitted by the Montana PSC for in-state moves and running interstate under our own US DOT 3445120 / MC 1108940 authority, with $1 million in cargo coverage on every single job.

On Time, Snow or Smoke

A two-hour arrival window and a call when the truck rolls out. We plan around winter ice on the hillside driveways, valley inversions, and August wildfire haze so your closing date and move-out deadline still hold.

Packing & Supplies Included

Full or partial packing, with everything we need loaded before we leave the yard — blankets, shrink wrap, dollies, and cartons — so the crew starts working the minute we knock on your Missoula door.

Specialty Moves Handled

Pianos, gun safes, antiques, and oversized pieces moved with the right boards, straps, and a crew chief who has eased a load down a steep, snow-packed Grant Creek driveway before.

Free Estimate in 1 Hour

Tell us about your move and a real person at our Missoula office sends a flat-rate written quote back — usually within one business hour, no obligation.

We Know Missoula. We Move MT.

A name Levi has earned one careful move at a time since 2012, from downtown to the Bitterroot.

Local Moving in Missoula

Local Moving

If you are staying inside Missoula or anywhere across the county, that is a single-day job for our crew, from a Target Range rancher to a place tucked up a Grant Creek lane. Levi or one of the chiefs walks the home first, then we own the whole thing: the load, the run down Reserve or Brooks, the careful back-in to a tight driveway, all of it under one flat written rate that does not move.

Long-Distance Moving in Missoula

Long-Distance Moving

Headed out of the Garden City for Bozeman, Helena, Kalispell, Billings, Spokane, or Boise? The same Missoula crew that pads and wraps your house is the crew that drives it and carries the last box inside at the other end, the whole trip set as one binding number. Your load never lands on a freight board, nobody resells your call, and the truck stays ours from your door to the new one.

Residential Moving in Missoula

Residential Moving

Houses all over western Montana are our daily work, from a University District bungalow with a steep front stoop to a newer build perched on the Miller Creek grade. We protect floors and door frames, break down bedframes and oversized pieces to rebuild them on the far end, and on an icy morning everything rides cinched down so nothing shifts on the hill or out the Bitterroot.

Apartment & Condo Moving in Missoula

Apartment & Condo Moving

Student housing, downtown apartments, and the rentals all around campus are our bread and butter, especially the third-floor walk-up with one narrow stairwell. We run hard during University of Montana move-in week, so Hannah books your date early, lays floor runners through the entry, and the crew has a packed-in studio or one-bed turned around fast. Out by the start of fall semester, when every U-Haul in town is spoken for, having an actual crew lined up is worth a lot.

Full Packing in Missoula

Full Packing

Give Trevor's packers the run of the whole house, or point them at the cabinets and closets you dread most, and your dishes, stemware, and wall art get wrapped, double-boxed, and marked by room. Whatever our crew packs carries the same coverage your sofa and dresser do once it is aboard, and the supplies ride out with us, so you are not hunting for tape at nine the night before.

Short-Term Storage in Missoula

Short-Term Storage

Closings around Missoula seldom line up neat, so when there is a gap we hold your belongings in a dry, secure unit and redeliver the day you ask. Expect somewhere around $95 to $230 a month by unit size, spelled out on the estimate beside the move rather than added on after. A lot of families lean on it through the winter while a spring move-in date gets sorted.

Piano Moving in Missoula

Piano Moving

Uprights, baby grands, consoles, and spinets get the skid board, the pads, and the straps from movers who have done it a hundred times, not a couple of guys guessing on a Saturday. Wyatt has eased pianos down more than one Rattlesnake hillside driveway and up plenty of narrow Craftsman porches without a mark. Plan on about $280 to $440 for an upright and $500 to $780 for a baby grand, set in writing before we touch it.

Loading & Unloading in Missoula

Loading & Unloading

Driving a rental truck yourself, or staring at a pod parked out front? Hire our movers by the hour just to pack it in tight or empty it out fast, and your belongings get the same skilled treatment they would on a full job. It pays off when you are towing your own load to Spokane or Boise and only want the heavy, clumsy stuff lifted by folks who do it every day instead of friends roped in for pizza.

Senior Moving in Missoula

Senior Moving

Steady, gentle help for the day a parent finally leaves a longtime Lower Rattlesnake or Orchard Homes home for somewhere smaller or a retirement community. We work beside them sorting what stays, do the packing and the move, and arrange the new rooms so that first evening feels like home, and a cherished old upright that comes along gets handled with extra care. Levi makes sure the whole family knows where things stand on timing.

What Our Missoula Customers Say

Our 5-star reputation comes from Garden City families we’ve moved since 2012.

the Rattlesnake · Google
★★★★

“Moved out of a Rattlesnake two-bed up one of those tight little driveways, and the crew backed the truck in like it was nothing and never bumped the rail. Where they lose the fifth star for me is the arrival window. They showed up closer to the tail end of it, so I lost a chunk of the morning waiting around. Once they got rolling the work was quick and clean, and the flat number Hannah gave me on the phone held exactly.”

Grant Creek · Google
★★★★★

“Our Grant Creek place sits on a steep grade and that driveway had me sweating about the truck, but Wyatt's crew managed it without any fuss. They cushioned the door frames, disassembled both beds and stood them back up at the new house, and left every wall untouched. Levi had walked through and given me a single flat figure, and that is precisely what I owed. These are hometown guys who genuinely understand these hillsides.”

the University District · Google

“I phoned around about my little studio near campus and Garden City was the only outfit that did not treat a one-room job like a nuisance. A two-man crew had everything boxed, hauled, and dropped at the new place in well under three hours, gentle with my record player and my bike. What they quoted is what I paid, not a dollar more. On a grad-student budget, that honesty went a long way.”

Target Range · Google
★★★★★

“Four bedrooms out in Target Range, a garage stuffed with a decade of clutter, and a few heirlooms my wife was anxious about. Levi stopped by and walked the place top to bottom before naming a price, and once moving day arrived the crew just took charge. Doorways padded, a heavy old hutch brought out clean, and every carton set in its right room before they rolled off. Finest movers we have hired in this town, no contest.”

A Note From Levi

“I grew up in the Rattlesnake and worked my way through the University of Montana loading trucks on weekends before I started Garden City Movers in 2012. I’d watched plenty of Missoula folks — students hauling out of a Slant Streets rental, families heading down the Bitterroot, retirees downsizing after thirty winters in one house — get a low number on the phone and a bigger one at the truck. So I built a hometown crew that quotes one flat written rate, runs its own trucks, and treats a move on an icy Grant Creek driveway like it’s our own. That’s the company we show up for every morning.”

Missoula Moving Questions, Answered

The things Garden City folks ask Levi’s crew most before booking a move.

Is Garden City Movers really the mover, or a broker?
Yes — Garden City Movers is a fully licensed and insured local moving company based in Missoula, MT, started by Levi Hartman in 2012. We run our own trucks and our own uniformed crews on every job, with a Montana PSC permit and our own US DOT / MC authority on file — never a broker, matching service, or lead app.
What does a local Missoula move run?
A 2-mover crew starts at $125/hour with the truck, pads, and equipment included; add a third mover at $170 or a fourth at $220 when a hillside home or a long stair carry calls for it. Most 1–2 bedroom jobs land in the 2–4 hour range. Once Levi’s office has walked the job or seen it on video, we can put it in writing as one set flat figure if you’d rather know the total up front. Anything leaving Montana is priced as a binding written quote.
How far ahead should I book the Garden City crew?
Aim for two to three weeks on weekend or end-of-month dates. Late summer fills fastest, when University of Montana move-in and end-of-lease turnover all hit at once, so book those early. Weekdays and mid-month stay open longer, and any time a crew has a gap we’ll happily take a last-minute or same-day job.
Which Missoula areas do you cover?
Local moves around Missoula and Missoula County and western Montana — the Rattlesnake, Grant Creek, the University District, Target Range, Miller Creek — plus in-state Montana runs and long-distance moves from Missoula to anywhere in the country, including regular Bitterroot and Flathead Lake trips. Pianos, gun safes, and antiques are handled in-house by our own crew.
